Couples Therapy, Greensborough
If you're here, it's likely that something is not working in your relatioship. It might be a dwindling connection, ongoing conflict, parental disputes, or even betrayal.
Whatever the reason, it's important that you and your partner can feel like a team again, improving communication and striving to have both of your emotional needs met within the relationship.
With extensive training in couples counselling, I can help you develop the insights and skills necessary to bring your relationship to a healthier and happier place.
About me
Meeting your emotional needs.
My name is Raphael and I'm a registered psychologist. I'm passionate about improving the lives and relationships for couples who have fallen on hard times.
I use Schema Therapy to help couples break free of old patterns and establish healthier alternatives. So what is schema therapy?
Schemas are beliefs that we develop in our early years, about the way we can expect to interact with others and how we can expect to have our emotional needs met. We usually learn this through our early relationship with our parents and this 'sets the tone' for how we will respond to others in times of stress and conflict.
Most issues in relationships arise when couples try to have their emotional needs met but go about it in ways that tend to make matters worse. This is often through submissive, avoidant or overcompensatory behaviours.
The benefit of schema therapy for couples is that it provides a deep, holistic view of each person, not only making sense of themselves in the relationship but also as individuals within the context of their own lives. This depth of individual understanding helps to cement meaningful, enduring change, as both of you make positive steps towards meeting your own emotional needs and supporting the needs of your partner.

My services
What to Expect
I use a structured approach, with clear goals and tangible steps in place.
The first few sessions focus on your current issues, your individual histories and the dynamic between you. Consider this the 'information-gathering' stage.
Once this is complete, we begin highlighting the unhealthy behaviours in the relationship, while introducing healthier alternatives.
Through this process, we identify the emotional needs for each of you and work out ways that both of you can meet these needs for each other. Over time, this process leads to increased feelings of love, connection and mutual understanding.
It's not always easy, and progress doesn't always follow a straight line, but the journey can be incredibly worth it in the end.

Fees
How much will it cost?
I offer a mix of standard and extended sessions. At the beginning of therapy, it can be beneficial to have some extended sessions, which run for 90 minutes instead of the usual 60 minutes. Unlike individual therapy, there are two of you; two minds, two histories, two sides to each story. Having the additional time allows us to give the proper attention to both of you, while we make sense of your situation. This may be useful for the first 4 sessions.
